Singareni Signs MoU with NTPC Green Energy to Boost Renewable Energy Expansion

In a major step towards large-scale renewable energy development, Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC dedicated to green energy initiatives. The agreement was formalized at a ceremony held at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, in the presence of SCCL Chairman & Managing Director Sri N. Balram, company directors, and senior NGEL officials Sri R. Maurya and Sri Bimal Gopal Chari.

Speaking on the occasion, SCCL CMD Sri N. Balram said that the company has adopted an ambitious strategy to expand into renewable energy generation. As part of this plan, SCCL aims to capitalize on NTPC’s decades-long expertise in the power sector by collaborating with its green energy division.

He announced that SCCL is set to establish a 500 MW Pumped Storage Power Plant at the Medipalli Open Cast Mine, increase its solar power capacity to 5,000 MW, and explore the setup of a Geothermal Power Plant in Manuguru. Additionally, plans are underway to develop a Green Hydrogen production facility. Calling the MoU a significant milestone, he said that NTPC and NGEL’s technical leadership would greatly support Singareni in these major energy transitions.

The partnership may extend to technical collaboration and joint venture projects, and SCCL is also considering NTPC’s support in marketing the energy generated from its future renewable power plants.

NGEL senior officials Sri Bimal Gopalachari (Head, Business Development) and Sri R.R. Maurya (Head, Civil Engineering) praised Singareni’s decision to diversify into renewable energy while continuing coal production. They noted that NGEL is rapidly expanding its green energy portfolio and expressed confidence that this collaboration could lead to the establishment of advanced renewable energy projects both in India and abroad. They added that detailed project-level reviews would soon be conducted to identify and implement mutually beneficial initiatives.

The officials also highlighted Singareni’s remarkable 13-decade legacy and expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with the esteemed organization.

SCCL Director (E&M) Sri M. Thirumalar Rao, ED (STPP) Sri Chiranjeevi, GM (Coordination & Marketing) Sri T. Srinivas, GM Sri Vishwanath Raju, and several other senior officers participated in the event.
