Pinapaka: A man named Ponaganti Purushottam, a resident of Venkatraopet village in Pinapaka mandal, was burnt to death after some chillies got into his eyes and 50 quintals of chillies he had dried were doused with petrol by unknown persons.
When a complaint was filed at the Edulla Bayyaram police station, SI Raj Kumar registered a case and took up the investigation. After that, as per the instructions of Manuguru DSP Ravinder Reddy, SI Raj Kumar intensified the investigation of the case under the leadership of CI Venkateswarlu and based on the evidence, the accused were identified as Tandra Balakrishna son of Venkateswarlu, 33 yrs, Besta, agriculture, from the same village, and his maternal uncle Mancharla Venkateswarlu son of Pullaiah, 49 yrs, Besta,, agriculture. While the police were checking vehicles at Venkateswarapuram village, they caught the two men while they were fleeing on a motorcycle. They interrogated them. A man named Tandra Balakrishna said that his wife had died last year and that the reason for his death was Purushottam’s casting of spells. He had a grudge and told this to his uncle Venkateswarlu. He also said that Purushottam was obstructing him in all the panchayats to prevent him from becoming a gentleman and that they wanted to hurt him financially in some way. They waited for the right time. On the 10th, at midnight, when they noticed that no one was guarding the chilli fields, Balakrishna poured five liters of petrol and dried chillies around them and set them on fire.
Venkateswarlu was guarding the road so that no one came.
As soon as the chili was applied, the two fled from there and went home and slept in their homes at night.
Today, both the accused were arrested and sent to remand.
